Join us for a fascinating lecture on an extraordinary event that occurred during WW2 in Johnstown, Co. Kilkenny. On the 23rd January 1944 an American B-17 Flying Fortress took off from Goose Bay Airfield in Newfoundland en route to RAF Prestwick in the UK to be made battle ready. Later that day it would crash in Johnstown, Co. Kilkenny. This presentation by historian Susan Garrett will explore the reasons why the aircraft was in the area and the events that unfolded after the crash.
